Canberra’s newest district
Development of the Molonglo Valley began in the 2010s, with suburbs such as Coombs and Wright among the earlier ones, followed by Denman Prospect and others. Homes are contemporary: compact detached houses, townhouses and apartments, often with rendered or fibre-cement facades and large windows.
With new homes, painting is less about repair and more about finish: replacing flat builder-grade paint with washable products, adding feature walls or decorative finishes, and touching up the marks that come with moving in.
Painting a near-new home
New plasterboard and render are usually in good condition, but settlement can open small cracks at cornices and joints in the first few years. We fill and seal these before repainting so they don’t reappear straight away. If your home is still under a builder’s warranty, check whether any defects should be raised with the builder first.

Molonglo Valley painting questions
Should we paint now or wait until the house settles?
If the builder-grade paint is marking badly you don’t need to wait, but expect a few small cracks to appear in the first years. We use flexible fillers at cornices and joints to reduce that.
Can you add a feature wall or decorative finish?
Yes. Feature walls, textured finishes and decorative effects are a popular way to personalise a new home.
Does repainting affect our builder’s warranty?
Check your warranty terms, and report any building defects to your builder before repainting over them.
