Painters in Inner North Canberra
Early cottages, postwar brick homes and a fast-growing number of apartments: the Inner North calls for very different kinds of painting work.
- Strata and apartment painting
- Eaves, fascias and window frames
- Weatherboard and render repaints
- Interior repaints between tenancies
Old streets, new density
Braddon and Ainslie date from Canberra’s earliest residential development in the 1920s. Turner, Dickson, O’Connor and Lyneham were built up mainly in the 1940s to 1960s, with solid brick homes on generous blocks. Since the light rail opened along Northbourne Avenue in 2019, apartment and townhouse building has picked up across much of the district.
For painting, that gives the Inner North two quite different markets: individual homes that need sympathetic, well-prepared exterior work, and strata buildings where scheduling, access and common areas matter as much as the paint.
Getting the preparation right
Postwar brick homes usually have painted timber eaves, fascias, barge boards and window frames that weather faster than the brick. Older cottages often have timber weatherboards or render with many paint layers. In both cases the finish depends on the preparation: cleaning, scraping back loose paint, filling and priming bare timber before topcoats.
Some older streets in the Inner North may fall within heritage precincts, so check the controls that apply before choosing a new exterior colour.

Inner North Canberra painting questions
Can you paint an apartment while we are still living in it?
Yes. We work room by room, keep furniture covered and leave each area usable at the end of the day. We’ll talk through the order of work when we quote.
Do you deal directly with strata managers?
Yes. We can quote for common areas and building exteriors and work with your strata manager or executive committee on scheduling and access.
Our brick house only needs the timber painted. Is that a job you take on?
Yes. Eaves, fascias, barge boards, windows and doors are a common request on postwar brick homes, and they are often what protects the house from the weather.
