A district built from the late 1960s
Development of Belconnen began in the late 1960s and continued through the 1970s and 1980s, which is why so much of the district is made up of brick and brick-veneer houses with timber eaves, fascias and window frames. More recent infill around the town centre and along main corridors has added townhouses and apartments.
Homes from this era usually need the same core work: painting the exposed timber that has weathered under decades of Canberra sun and frost, updating dated interiors, and repairing cracked cornices and plaster before repainting.
What we look at on a Belconnen home
On an exterior, we check eaves and fascias for flaking and bare timber, look at window sills and door frames where water sits, and note any cracks in rendered sections. Inside, older homes often have gloss or enamel paint on doors and trims that needs sanding and the right primer before a modern water-based finish will hold.

Usually, yes. Stained or varnished timber needs cleaning, sanding and the right primer before it will take paint. We’ll check its condition when we quote.
Do you paint townhouse complexes in Belconnen?

Could my home contain asbestos?
Homes built before about 1990 may contain asbestos-containing materials, such as some fibre-cement sheeting. We don’t sand or drill materials suspected of containing asbestos, and we’ll tell you if anything should be checked first.
