Among Belconnen’s first streets
Aranda, ACT was one of the earlier suburbs developed in Belconnen, from the late 1960s, on the district’s eastern side close to Black Mountain and the Aranda Bushland reserve. Its homes are mostly detached houses of that period on established, often well-treed blocks.
Shade, leaves and timber
Leafy blocks are part of Aranda’s appeal, but shade keeps some walls damp through winter and leaf litter fills gutters, so fascias and eaves can stay wet. Before repainting, we clean and treat mould and mildew, check timber for soft spots, and make sure water can drain away from the surfaces we’re painting.
Planning around a leafy block
Aranda’s mature trees are a big part of why people live there, and they shape the job. We plan exterior work for drier spells, when shaded walls have had a chance to dry out, and protect garden beds and paving under drop sheets before any scraping starts. Window frames tucked under deep eaves often look sound but hide soft sills, so we check them by hand. Inside, homes of this period often have timber-framed windows and generous living areas, and a lighter wall colour makes the most of the filtered light that comes through the trees.
Materials of the era
Some fibre-cement sheeting installed before the 2003 asbestos ban may contain asbestos, so we never sand, drill or water-blast it. More on painting in Belconnen.

Aranda painting FAQs
Why does paint fail on our shaded south wall?
Damp surfaces and mould undermine paint. We clean and treat the wall, then use a suitable primer and exterior finish.
Do you paint homes near the bushland edge?
Yes, across Aranda and the rest of Belconnen.
Can you paint when trees are dropping leaves and sap?
Yes, with care. We clean surfaces just before coating, cover fresh paint where needed and avoid painting directly under heavy drop on windy days.
Nearby suburbs we also paint
Aranda is part of Belconnen. Belconnen was one of the first districts built outside Canberra’s original city. Many of its homes are now forty to fifty years old and due for a proper exterior repaint. See all the Canberra areas we paint, or read our guide to painting costs in Canberra.
