Painters in Deakin, ACT
Deakin is a largely residential suburb of solid, established brick homes. On most of these houses, the timber and the interior are what need painting.
- Eaves, fascias, barge boards and window frames
- Full interior updates for postwar homes
- Cracked ceilings, cornices and old enamel trims
Brick homes with painted timber
Deakin, ACT was mostly built up in the decades after the Second World War, and much of its housing is brick on established blocks, with local shops serving the suburb. Brick walls rarely need paint, but the timber eaves, fascias, barge boards and window frames on these homes do, and they are what keeps water out of the roof space and wall cavities.
When that timber is left too long, the paint splits along the grain, water gets in and the wood starts to break down. Catching it early is usually cheaper than replacing boards.
Updating the inside
Interiors of postwar homes often still have original enamel on doors and trims, ceilings with fine cracks, and colours chosen decades ago. A full interior repaint usually means repairing cracks, sanding and priming old enamel so new water-based paint adheres, and choosing a fresh, consistent white for ceilings and trims.
A note on mid-century homes
Paint on homes built before 1970 may contain lead (and some later paint can too), so we recommend testing and use wet, low-dust preparation. More on painting in Inner South Canberra.

Common questions
Do you paint just the eaves and fascias?
Yes. On brick homes that’s often the main exterior job, and it protects the timber from water damage.
Is our original brick worth painting?
Painting face brick is a big change and hard to reverse, and painted brick needs repainting over time. Leaving the brick and refreshing the timber is often the better option. We can talk through both options.
